The reason we wanted to start this festival was because we wanted to support and find the new breed of gifted film story tellers.
Although there are other festivals around we always felt that independent filmmakers, like my film making heroes Roger Corman, George Romero, John Waters, David Lynch, Jim Jarmusch, Dario Argento, and Lucio Fulci along with recent admirable filmmakers like Kevin Smith, Quentin Tarantino, Jon Favreau, Robert Rodriguez, Wes Anderson, and any of those film makers that had a hard time finding encouragement and support would have benefited from a festival like ours. So it occurred to us that if that platform isn't there, then we may not discover the new representation of these great film story tellers.
In the future as we grow we would like to bring attention to the past low budget and independent filmmakers that have inspired us and maybe meet the next generation of gifted people who have passion for film making today. Having worked for several years behind the scenes as an entertainment industry support staffer, as well as a playhouse theater manager. Over the past 7 years I've been inspired to continue on our journey to showcase and encourage the new talented people in filmmaking and screenwriting today.
I hope to take the lessons we've learned and inspiration from the new independent film making community to produce my own films. Which led us to begin working on our first feature film project. I would also like to help other film makers to bring their stories to the theater screen and to audiences around the world. |
"The idea for this came about quite simply, I already had an informal Film Festival going in a sort of video swap with some friends, loaning out our favorite B-Movies to each other, and getting together now and then. As an aspiring filmmaker and screenwriter myself, I wanted to make a place where other creative film makers and screenwriters like me would feel comfortable.
With Zed Fest, Ed hopes that he can support the art and passion of filmmaking at it's most basic level, while encouraging filmmakers to dig deep into their creative souls to explore the easiest most frugal methods of bringing their stories to life. |
